Last Hike & Beulah for Cherry Pie!

Today we left Sleeping Bear Dunes Park.  We had time in the morning for one last hike, we parked at the foot of the Trailhead and just went to the top of the Dunes.
It was certainly easier climbing up this time, as it was my third time in a week, then it was the first.. Thought I'd die the first time! :)

Duke had a blast today, he was playing in the sand like it was snow. We then pulled out our Roadfood book, and charted a route toward The Cherry Hut, just south of us in Beulah Michigan.

The Cherry Hut know for their Pies sell 500 pies/day! We bought two for our family gathering tomorrow. Also bought some Cherry Butter, Cherry BBQ Sauce, Cherry Cookies, Cherry covered Chocolates....

Great Last Day & Evening Sleeping Bear Dunes

We had a wonderful last day & evening in Sleeping Bear Dunes today. It rained in the morning, so, we chilled out inside, I caught up on some work blogs, Jerry caught up on some paper work.  The moment the sun came out, Jerry went outside to read the book he's engrossed in (Game of Thrones), and Duke & I took off for a new adventure..  Jerry made new friends while we were gone..

Duke & I rode our bike (he runs, I ride) to the Alligator Hill trailhead.  14kms of trails to choose from, we did 8 of them, as one of them seemed straight up, hence the name HILL!  To get just to the trailhead you have to ride up hill. (Good thing Duke can pull a bike.)

The Trails were lovely, only a handful of kilometers from the Dunes Trails, but, COMPLETELY different!

The first lookout we got to was called Island Lookout, it was breathtaking, the woods broke and you had a wonderful view of the two islands.  The Indians say they are symbolic of two baby bears who were lost, and the main land looks like the mother bear, looking for her cubs.

We went from this lookout to Big Glen lookout. This was along the top of the hill, so, much easier then the first part.

Back at our campsite, we read out books for a while, then Jerry made us a wonderful dinner..

He always makes enough for 10, even though there are only two of us!
Below is the map of the area.. we'll be back, there are a number of trails yet to do!

A day on a beach.. in Sleeping Bear Dunes

Well, it was HOT today.. Duke & I started off our day with our daily walk to the top of Sleeping Bear Dunes.. we get whipped around by sand, then head back to the camp grounds.
I saw they had a notice about Cougars posted.. I had to laugh.. (inside joke.)
The Sleeping Bear Dunes Trail is only one of many, but, my bike had a flat, it's only 3 km from our campground, and then 3km around the trail, and then back 3km, so we can handle that.. The others are further, now that my bike's fixed, Duke & I might trot on over to a further trail and try it out tomorrow.

After the Trail, Duke & I walk find the beach enterance, and walk along it toward the campground to fetch Jerry for a beach adventure.

Once all together.. we enjoy the day on the beach.

The water's lovely! The beaches were almost empty.. very nice time of year to come on out!

Later this same day I took off and went into town with the bike (which Jerry fixed after the beach).. Nice town, just a few km from our campsite, with little shops, and IGA, and lots of little cafes and SPAs, which is what I was aiming for!.  So, I'm now a pampered manicured camper (that's very important you know).
XOXO!
